Devel (Del)
   The Romani word for "God." It is cognate with the Latin Deus and Greek theos. Early writers on Gypsies were confused by the similarity of Devel and "Devil" and thought the Gypsies worshipped the Devil. The Romani word for "Devil" is Beng.
