Clinton, William( Bill) Jefferson
    (1946- )
   United States. Politician; former president of the United States, 1993-2001. He is descended from Scottish Gypsies. Clinton was originally called William Jefferson Blyth. His great-great-great-great-uncle Charles Blyth, who held the title of Charles I of the Gypsies, was crowned at Kirk Yetholm in 1847. Charles's brother Andrew settled in the American South, and his son Andrew Jefferson Blyth was born in 1801 in South Carolina. He is the great-great-grandfather of Bill Clinton.
   Bill Clinton's wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, has taken a great interest in the living conditions of the Roma in Europe. She made the keynote address at a conference "The Plight of the Roma" at Columbia University in November 2004.
