Gilderoy, Jack Scamp
(1812-1857)
   England. Bare-knuckle boxer. "King" of the Kentish Gypsies. His several brothers worked in the scissors-grinding trade. His striking appearance in a top hat, given to him by Baron Rothschild in return for his vote in the Hythe Parliamentary elections, was well known to contemporaries. Gilderoy also took part in pony-trap races.
