Golemanov, Dimiter
(1938-1994)
   Bulgaria. Poet and teacher. His father was active in trade union politics as early as the 1930s and was honored as a fighter against fascism. Golemanov became known to the world of Gypsy studies through a version of the Balkan tale, "Song of the Bridge," that Lev Cherenkov had published in the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society. Golemanov had a great love of the Russian language, which he had studied at Sofia University, and he wrote poetry and songs in Russian as well as Bulgarian and Romani. He attended the second World Romany Congress in Geneva. He died of a heart attack shortly after the political changes in Bulgaria.
