International Meetings

International Meetings
The first meeting mentioned in some books is the Cannstadt Conference of 1871, but recent research has discovered that this was a story made up by a newspaper. Some books also mention an international Sofia Congress in 1905. However, it seems that this gathering was just for Gypsies living in Bulgaria. In 1934 the Romanian Gypsy Union organized what can be considered the first international meeting, the Bucharest Conference, although few-if any-foreigners participated. After World War II, six international congresses have been held, as well as a European Congress in Seville, Spain. Both Catholic and Protestant organizations arrange international conferences and meetings.
