Medzitlija

Medzitlija
Town on the Greek-Macedonian border. In June 2003 some 700 Roma from Kosovo whose refugee camp in Macedonia had been closed tried unsuccessfully to cross the border into Greece. They remained in poor conditions on the border for several weeks while negotiations took place as to their fate. Finally, with a partly kept promise of satisfactory accommodation, they returned to Skopje in Macedonia.
