- Romania. 20th-century civil rights activist. He was a farmer from Calbor in Transylvania who was the first to fight for Gypsy civil rights in Romania. In the 1920s, he set up the society Infratirea Neorustica (Brotherhood of New Farmers), which organized lectures and theater events to raise the cultural level of the Romanies. In 1933, he founded the journal Neamul Tiganesc.
