Robertson, Jeannie
(1908-1975)
   Scotland. Singer. A Scottish Traveler and performer of folk songs, Robertson's parents traveled principally in the northeast of Scotland. She first came to prominence in folk-song circles in 1953, when she was recorded by Peter Kennedy. Acknowledging her mother as the main source of her musical knowledge, she gained a reputation as one of the finest ballad singers in western Europe. She made several records and videos and was honored by Queen Elizabeth II with the Member of the (Order of the) British Empire. Her daughter Lizzie Higgins and nephew Stanley Robertson were also singers.
