Romani Baxt (Good Fortune) Foundation

   Sofia, Bulgaria. Est. 1996. Chairperson: Michali Georgiev. The organization focuses on legal and social programs designed to promote the Roma people's inclusion in society and to promote human rights and equal treatment. Within this framework, the team monitors and reports on the situation in Bulgaria and provides educational as well as legal and social services. It offers free legal advice to Roma as well as working alongside the Sofia municipality to develop a strategy for improving education. In 2002, the foundation was selected from 50 nominees to win a Body Shop Human Rights Award. It also receives the support of the Open Society Institute.
