Cannstadt Conference

Cannstadt Conference
In 1871 during the Württemberg annual festival, the editor of a Stuttgart newspaper played a trick announcing that a Gypsy parliament would be held. Many curious people went to see this event. The trains coming to Cannstadt were apparently packed. In January 1872 the Times of London published a notice about the parliament, as did the Evening Standard a month later. From this joke, the conference has slipped into some books about Gypsies.
