Doherty, John

Doherty, John
(1895-1980)
Donegal, Ireland. He took up the fiddle in his teens and soon was in much demand to play at the local village entertainment venues known as "Ceilidh houses." The Do-herty family would travel around the Bluestack Mountain region calling in at cottages in this sparsely populated area. In the 1960s, Do-herty was "discovered" and made a recording for the British Broadcasting Corporation. He went on to make several other recordings, such as The Peddlers Pack, Bundle and Go, and The Floating Bow. He was also the subject of a documentary, Fiddler on the Road, made by an Ulster television producer.
