Gypsylorists

Gypsylorists
A term used for non-Gypsy amateur scholars in the 19th and early 20th centuries who saw the Gypsy life as romantic, at least for short periods in the summer. They used to travel in horse-drawn wagons and make campfires around which they sang their own translations into Romani of popular songs. So, the student song Gaudeamus igitur was translated as Kesa paias kana 'men tarniben atchela (Let us make merry while we still have youth). They have been criticized for ignoring the harassment suffered by the Romanies they studied.
