Hübschmannova, Milena
(1933-2006)
   Czechoslovakia. Scholar and civil rights activist. She helped to keep Romany culture alive during the period 1973-1989 when it was discouraged by the government in Czechoslovakia. She was instrumental in small-scale publishing during this period, including Romane Gil'a, a book of songs in Romani, as well as teaching the language. Hübschmannová wrote many articles and books in and on the language. She was the editor of the learned journal Romano Dzaniben (Romani Knowledge) and taught Romani at Prague University.
