(IRU)
Est. 1978. President: Stanislaw Stankiewicz. Since the second World Romany Congress in 1978, the union has operated between congresses as the official body representing Roma, taking over the role of the Comité International Tzigane. It is recognized as a representative body by the major international organizations and was awarded roster status by theUnited Nations Economic and Social Council as long ago as 1979 and later by the United Nations Children's Fund. It has been the prime mover in setting up the European Roma Information Office in Brussels.
