Moveable Dwellings Bills

Moveable Dwellings Bills
These bills were proposed as legislation in the British Parliament between 1885 to 1908, under the instigation of George Smith. In 1891, for the first time, Gypsies from England went on delegations to Parliament. There were two delegations-one led by the similarly named George Smith and the other led by a Gypsy, George Lazzy Smith-to oppose the bill. The bills were never passed because the opposition of the owners of circuses and fairs persuaded members of Parliament to vote against them.
