Sundt, Eilert

Sundt, Eilert
Norway. Pastor and reformer. In 1848 he obtained a government grant to study the problem of Travelers in Norway. His religious beliefs led him to think that they would be better off in workhouses than traveling the roads. In 1863, Sundt reported that out of 425 Travelers who had been "reformed" (i.e., settled), approximately 100 had gone back to nomadism. In 1869, the work was taken from Sundt and given to a department of the church.
